Regarding hotels and motels in general, I do always enjoy stories that are set in or around them ( Clifton Hill, Briarpatch, etc). A good location always adds that extra something to a good read, and I think Fell was the perfect spooky setting for The Sun Down Motel. Nothing in Fell ever seems to adapt or change, the buildings remains the same and the townsfolk never leave. The whole of Fell seemed to be frozen in time, creating a feeling of isolation for Carly and Viv. The very dark and murder obsessed town was the perfect setting for this ghostly mystery and I loved the location and its residents alike.

I really loved the whole vibe of Fell, it would definitely be somewhere I’d like to visit. An overall great read with a compelling mystery and some great lead characters. The town setting of Fell was a great location that matched the darker tone of the novel and I loved the small town’s host of quirky characters. I loved the split POV between Viv and Carly and how the two women began to go down very similar paths in their quest for justice. The Sun Down Motel was such a gripping read. But in a town as dark as Fell can catching a killer really be that easy? And will the same fate that met Viv also meet Carly? Both women find themselves sleuthing out the murder of several young girls, hoping that the answers will solve all of their problems.

Fell is a town that is known for its spookier nature, having an abnormally high murder rate. Told in alternating POV’s between Carly and Viv, The Sun Down Motel sees the two young women experiencing the same darkness that the Motel has to offer. In Fell, Carly manages to move into Viv’s old apartment and even starts working the same night shift at the Sun Down Motel, the place that Viv was last seen. Dropping out of uni, Carly travels to Fell, the town where her Aunt was last seen. After Carly’s own mother dies without any closure on Viv’s whereabouts, Carly decides to do some investigating of her own. Carly’s Aunt Viv disappeared without a trace back in the 80s and has not been seen or heard from since. James, The Sun Down Motel follows Carly Kirk, a young true crime fan who is drawn into a mystery of her own.
